Stem cells are found in many different tissues in the human body, including bone marrow, fat and in the umbilical cord. Stem cells have a natural ability to heal the body, but when they are not released quickly enough to repair damaged tissue, degeneration occurs.

Human umbilical cord tissue-derived cells have been shown to assist with tissue regeneration due to the function of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs). These functions include reducing inflammation, modulating the immune system and secreting factors that can help certain tissues in your body regenerate.

Even though these cells are from the umbilical cord of newborn babies, they are considered "adult" stem cells.

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP)

PRP involves taking a small sample of blood, typically from your arm, and spinning it in a centrifuge to separate the blood components. The platelets are then collected and injected to the area of injury or pain. Platelets are an easily accessible source of many growth factors and other signaling molecules, such as cytokines, that are needed to promote and regulate the healing of tissues in the body.

PRP has been used to assist in healing of tendon, ligament and muscle injuries, as well as reducing inflammation caused by osteoarthritis. As you are using your own blood, there are typically no adverse reactions experienced; however, after an injection you may have localized pain, irritation or bleeding at the site.
